Lauren Cadden and Ireland qualify for European relay final



Lauren Cadden and Ireland have secured their place in the final of the women’s 4x400m relay in Rome this morning.

Cadden was making her debut for Ireland at this level, and ran a time of 52.12 in the third leg, following Phil Healy (51.29) and Sophie Becker (51.64).

Cadden passed the baton to Sharlene Mawdsley, who stormed home in the final leg with a time of 49.76.

The final of the women’s 4x400m relay takes place tomorrow evening at 8.05pm.

Elsewhere this morning, there was no such luck for Chris O’Donnell and the men’s 4×400 relay team, as they missed out on qualifying for the final after finishing fifth in their heat.

Their time of 3:04.41 saw them finish 11th overall, with Grange’s O’Donnell running 45.26 in the second leg.
