Casualty airlifted from cruise ship bound for Killybegs



The Rescue 118 helicopter was launched yesterday morning after receiving a distress call from a cruise ship located north-west of Tory Island.

 

The emergency involved a person on board a cruise ship bound for Killybegs.

 

The ship is currently on an 11-day trip around Ireland and the UK, having departed Le Havre in France.

 

It was travelling from Belfast to Killybegs when the emergency arose in the early hours of yesterday morning.

 

Rescue 118 airlifted the casualty by stretcher and transported them directly to Sligo University Hospital due to the adverse weather.

 

Later in the day, Rescue 118 was tasked at around 3.15pm by Malin Head Coast Guard to a missing person search in Portsalon, assisted by Lough Swilly RNLI, Mulroy Coast Guard, Donegal Mountain Rescue Team.

 

Shortly after 9pm, the Lough Swilly RNLI volunteer crew sadly located the missing woman’s body in the water.
