Taoiseach ‘not satisfied’ with engagement level on Dromahair asylum seekers

It’s been claimed that the Taoiseach isn’t satisfied with the lack of communication and engagement over asylum seekers being housed at the former Abbey Manor Hotel.

Some members of the Dromahair Concerned Citizens Group met briefly with Simon Harris during his surprise visit to Sligo on Monday.

In a statement, the group says that they expressed their frustration to the Taoiseach at the lack of communication and proper engagement.

Simon Harris confirmed he would get a new briefing issued without delay for the Abbey Manor stating that only families would be accommodated in the hotel.

He was also said to be very surprised that no updated briefing had been issued since November and is said to have admitted that he wasn’t satisfied with the lack of communication and engagement.

The group also discussed numbers and requested that consideration be given to significantly reducing the planned number of 155 people and he said they would look at that.

The Taoiseach advised that he was familiar with the situation in Dromahair and respected the dignified approach the concerned residents group had taken thus far.

Concluding, the group has reiterated once again that the people in Dromahair were always happy to welcome refugees once families were being accommodated at reasonable numbers.

They also presented the Taoiseach with the petition to this effect signed by almost 800 members of the community.
