Roads policing units still need support despite drop in arrests

The recent drop in arrests for road offences does not mean that incidents of that nature aren’t happening.

That’s the view of Sinn Fein’s Transport Spokesperson, Martin Kenny, after figures released showed a decline in arrests driving under the influence of alcohol or drugs, and for speeding.

Last year, 7,771 people were arrested for driving under the influence, a 3% drop in comparison with the previous year, while there was an 8% decrease in those arrested for speeding in the same timeframe.

Speaking to Ocean FM News this afternoon, Deputy Kenny says that more support is needed for road policing units in order to fully stamp these incidents out.
