Massive funding announced for North West through Local Improvement Scheme

A record amount of funding has been announced today for the Local Improvement Scheme.

Up to €40m has been allocated nationwide by the Department of Rural and Community Development.

The North West will be huge beneficiaries of today’s announcement, with €4.7m euro heading for the region.

Donegal will receive the biggest share, with just over €2.58m. That’s followed by Sligo, getting €1.17m, and Leitrim in line to get just over €966,000.

The record investment will be used for repairs and improvement works on non-public rural roads and laneways under the Local Improvement Scheme.

Donegal and Sligo will also benefit from the Islands Allocation for 2024/2025, with an additional €200,000 for Donegal, and €20,000 for Sligo.

To date, almost €170m has been allocated to local authorities under the scheme since it was re-introduced in 2017.

Today’s announcement has been welcomed locally, with Ballymote Tubbercurry and Fianna Fail councillor, Paul Taylor, saying the funding will be of massive benefit to the region.
