Mainly positive report for Sligo care centre

A Sligo care centre has received a positive report from HIQA.

The health watchdog has published it’s latest reports on disability and care centres around the country this morning.

Abbey View Residences in Sligo town was one of 23 designated care centres inspected in HIQA’s latest round.

The centre is located on Chapel Street, and currently caters for up to 10 adults with physical disabilities and neurological conditions.

The unannounced inspection was carried out on January 24th, and focused on five specific areas, namely staffing, governance and management, premises, risk management procedures and fire precautions.

Four of the five areas examined were positive, with Abbey View found to be substantially compliant with regulations for governance and management, premises and risk management procedures. The report also found the centre to be compliant with staffing regulations.

The only non-compliance found was fire precautions. The report found that a number of staff had not participated in a fire drill, and that residents were unsure of the fire evacuation procedure for a night-time evacuation.

The centre has now put a plan in place, outlining how they intend to comply with HIQA’s regulations moving forward.
