Calls for Croí Cónaithe scheme to include asbestos

The issue of corrugated asbestos roofs, asbestos in walls, ceilings and fittings in houses in north Leitrim was highlighted at Monday’s meeting of the Manorhamilton Municipal District.

Fianna Fáil Councillor Justin Warnock spoke about the issue and raised a motion calling on the Minister for Housing, Local Government and Heritage, Darragh O’Brien.

Councillor Warnock is hopeful that extra funding can be provided under the Croí Cónaithe scheme for the removal of asbestos and a new roofing grant must be put in place.

The Croí Cónaithe scheme was one of the projects set up to help ease the struggles of the ongoing housing crisis.

The Kinlough-based Councillor says it’s important the grant reflects what’s going on on the ground.
