Donegal hurlers make winning championship start, Sligo & Leitrim lose

Donegal hurlers made a winning start to their 2024 Nickey Rackard Cup campaign on Saturday with an impressive 0-22 to 1-12 win over Armagh at the Athletic Grounds.

Sligo’s opening Christy Cup game at Markievicz Park ended in an 11-point defeat to Kildare (2-19 to 2-8).

The Lillywhites were relegated from the Joe McDonagh Cup last year – and controlled Saturday’s match pretty much from start to finish.

Leitrim’s Lory Meagher Cup game against Fermanagh was moved from Drumshanbo to Carrick-on-Shannon on Saturday, but the change of venue didn’t unduly bother the Ernemen as they ran out comprehensive 0-19 to 1-9 winners.
