Sligo snatch late draw with Leitrim

Holders Sligo kept their Connacht under-20 football championship hopes alive with a dramatic 2-11 to 1-14 draw with Leitrim at Markievicz Park on Wednesday evening.

Luke Marren converted a penalty in the fifth and final minute of added time to earn a share of the spoils against an impressive Leitrim who had looked the better team for much of the hour.

Sligo were six points down at one stage in the second half – but the introduction of Luke Marren provide a fresh source of scores – the Bunninadden scoring 1-4 in the closing quarter to help turn the match around.

Roscommon’s draw with Galway at Dr Hyde Park (0-6 each) has set up a winner-takes all scenario for the final two round-robin games next Wednesday – with Sligo travelling to Castlebar to face Mayo and Leitrim taking on Roscommon.

Galway, who top the table on five points, are already assured of one of the three play-off places.
