Sligo’s David Brady reaches West of Ireland semi-finals

Rosses Point native David Brady is through to the semi-finals of the 2024 Connolly Motor Group West of Ireland Championship after a sensational victory over Malone’s Matthew McLean on the first extra-tie hole of their quarter-final.

Brady, who had to come through last Wednesday’s qualifier to make the main draw, was three down after 13 holes – but birdied three of the last four holes to force the extra-tie hole, which he won with a par.

He had knocked out the 2021 West of Ireland champion, Hugh Foley, in round 1.

Monday afternoon’s quarter-final win came just hours after Brady had beaten his cousin Aodhagán 1up in the last 16.

While  Co Sligo is Brady’s home club, he has been playing out of Straffan Golf Club in Kildare recently – as he now works in Dublin.

Brady will be play Paul Coughlan of Castleknock in Tuesday morning’s semi-final.

Coughlan beat Robert Galligan (Elm Park) in the 18th.

The second semi-final will be between Ross Lattimer (Clandeboye) and Keith Egan (Carton House).
