Sligo hurlers beaten by Mayo in league final

There was disappointment for Sligo senior hurlers in Sunday’s Allianz League Division 3 final in Castlebar on Sunday as Mayo edged to victory on a final scoreline of 3-19 to 3-16.

The sides had met each other just two weeks earlier in the regulation league fixture at Kent Park which Mayo won narrowly (2-12 to 0-14)

Two first-half goals for Mayo ultimately proved to be important scores.

The home side led by 2-10 to 0-10 but Sligo managed to cut the gap to three points as the game entered the closing stages in torrential rain.

The match was held up for several minutes in the second-half following a serious looking leg injury to Sligo’s Fionn Moylan.
