Sligo begin Connacht U20 title defence

Sligo under-20 gaelic footballers begin their Connacht championship campaign on Wednesday evening when they host Roscommon in Markievicz Park in the first of their round-robin championship games.

Throw-in is at the earlier time of 5:15pm.

Paul Henry’s Sligo are bidding to win a third consecutive provincial title, having reached the All-Ireland U20 final for the first time in the county’s history in 2023.

The format of the Connacht under-20 championship has changed this year.

Instead of a straight knockout competition, the five counties will play each other on a round-robin basis.

At the end of the group stage, the top-placed county qualifies directly for the Connacht final – with the second and third-placed teams contesting a single semi-final.

Sligo have included 10 of the team that started last May’s All-Ireland under-20 final against Kildare in the starting 15 for Wednesday’s game.

The team is captained this year by Coolera/Strandhill’s Ross Doherty.

Wednesday’s match will be live-streamed by Connacht GAA here.

There will also be regular radio updates on Ocean FM during ‘Drive’ with Seamie McManus.

Match tickets for the match are available only online here.

In Wednesday’s other Connacht U20 game, Mayo host Galway in Castlebar at 7pm.
