St Attracta’s win first-ever girls All-Ireland colleges title



St Attracta’s Community School Tubbercurry are celebrating a first ever All-Ireland LGFA senior colleges football title following Monday’s impressive 3-12 to 1-10 victory over Ursuline Secondary School (Thurles) at Ballyforan in county Roscommon.

The south Sligo school produced an impressive display in challenging weather conditions, roared on by large numbers of Attracta’s supporters as they claimed a first ever senior girls gaelic football national title.

Attracta’s trailed by a point, 1-5 to 1-4, at the end of a closely contested first-half.

But two second-half goals from Blaithín Lavin helped inspire Attracta’s to a famous victory.

Lavin, who scored 2-2 in Monday’s final, spoke to Ocean FM Sport after the game.

Tourlestrane’s Lauren Normanly contributed 0-7 in Player of the Match performance.

Goalkeeper Catherine Gallagher spoke to Ocean FM Sport’s Colm McGee after the final whistle.
