Sligo facing relegation after Wexford loss

Sligo LGFA senior gaelic footballers are facing relegation to Divsion 4 of the Lidl National Football League following Sunday’s 3-7 to 1-8 loss to Wexford in Ballycullinane, county Wexford.

In challenging and windy conditions, scoring opportunities were few and far between for both sides in the opening half – with Caoilfhionn Ní Nualláin’s goal shortly before half-time giving Wexford an interval advantage of 1-1 to 0-2.

Sligo drew level early in the second half thanks to a Sinead Regan three-pointer – but two further Wexford goals from Chloe Fox and Ní Nualláin again in the second 30 minutes proved to be the criticial scores and Sligo, still without a win in Division 3 this season, now need to beat Louth in the final league game next weekend – and hope that Antrim lose to Roscommon, in order to avoid the drop.

Lidl NFL Division 3 results
Wexford 3-7 Sligo 1-8
Clare 10-7 Antrim 0-7
Down 4-12 Louth 2-6
Roscommon 1-11 Offaly 1-10
