Letterkenny University Hospital second-most overcrowded as INMO hit out at poor conditions

The INMO have said that they will be “overwhelmed” with overcrowding this bank holiday weekend.

This morning, there were 53 people on trollies in the North West’s two main hospitals.

34 of those were in Letterkenny University Hospital, the joint-second highest amount in the country along with Cork University Hospital. The remaining 19 in the North West were in Sligo.

University Hospital Limerick continue to be the most overcrowded in Ireland, with 82 people awaiting admission there.

In a statement released this morning, INMO General Secretary, Phil Ní Sheaghdha, said the current conditions were unacceptable ahead of another busy period.

The statement also goes on to criticise the HSE’s recent recruitment moratorium, saying that nurses and midwives are now dealing with very real risks to patient and staff safety when roles continue to remain unfilled.
