Battle of the ‘Rovers’ finishes level

Sligo Rovers and Shamrock Rovers drew 0-0 in an eventful SSE Airtricity League Premier Division game on Saturday night.

A crowd of 3,674 watched a strong display from the home side who will feel they might have taken all three points.

Their best chance came in the second-half when former Shamrock Rovers Simon Power broke clear only to be taken down on the edge of the area by visitors keeperr Leon Pohl.

The referee adjudged the foul to be a yellow card offence, rather than a red, and Rovers were unable to capitalise from the resulting free kick.

Shamrock Rovers also had chances, but Ed McGinty made a couple of important saves at key moments.
