Mercy College Sligo win Connacht LGFA title

Mercy College, Sligo, celebrated more sporting success on Monday when the girls senior gaelic football team lifted the Connacht Colleges senior ‘D’ post primary schools title with an impressive 5-11 to 1-5 victory over Colaiste na Coiribe (Galway) in Swinford on Monday.

It was an impressive display from the Mercy girls, and came just weeks after the school completed an All-Ireland senior league and cup double in basketball.

Monday’s final saw the Mercy concede 1-1 early on but, with the wind at their backs, they quickly settled and established a 3-5 to 1-2 interval lead.

Despite playing against the wind in the second half, the Sligo girls added two further goals in the second half to run out decisive winners.

Team manager Lisa Casey spoke to Ocean FM Sport’s Austin O’Callaghan after the win.

There is no All-Ireland series in the ‘D’ championship – but Monday’s victory ensures promotion for the Mercy to the provincial ‘C’ championship in 2025
