Sligo County Council fined over damage caused to stream

Sligo County Council have been fined €2,600 after damaging a river tributary linked to a Special Area of Conservation.

The fine was sought by Inland Fisheries Ireland (IFI), after a tributary stream at Corballa was damaged by heavy machinery.

It’s understood the machinery crossed the stream a number of times, despite previous instructions from IFI to use an alternative route.

Sligo County Council have been ordered to pay a fine of €250, as well as costs of €1,845, and another €500 to IFI.

Aisling Donegan, Senior Fisheries Environmental Officer with the IFI, is hopeful these actions won’t be repeated following today’s outcome.
