Rare Disease Day aims to provide support for those dealing with growing illnesses



Reminders are being issued today that 1 in 17 people in Ireland are living with some form of a rare disease.

 

 

Today marks Rare Disease Day with the message from campaigners that Rare isn’t always that rare.

 

 

It’s believed around 300 thousand people in Ireland have an unusual ailment and there are calls for more awareness for dealing with growing illnesses.

 

Lucy Gallagher is an 11 year old from Donegal and lives with a rare condition called Harlequin ichthyosis

 

 

She is part of the All-Ireland Children and Young Adults Research Advisory Group for Rare Diseases and says it’s vital that we listen to those who are affected:
