Leitrim secure league semi-final place after Carlow win

Leitrim women’s gaelic footballers booked their place in the Division 4 semi-finals of the Lidl National League on Sunday after an impressive 2-15 to 1-9 victory against Carlow.

Carlow led by 0-8 to 1-4 at half-time thanks to a late point from Cliodhna Ní Shé.

However, Leitrim upped the ante in the second half to ensure victory.

Leah Fox netted Leitrim’s opening goal in the first half while Laura O’Dowd scored her side’s second goal midway through the second half.

Division 4 leaders Fermanagh are also assured of  a league semi-final place after their 0-9 to 0-4 win over Limerick.

The top four counties in Division 4 will contest the league semi-finals this year – with league finalists both gaining promotion, in a change from last season.

It is quite possible that Carlow and Leitrim could face each other again in those league play-offs.

Leitrim captain Michelle Guckian, who came on as a second-half substitute, spoke to Ocean FM Sport’s PJ Leddy following Sunday’s win.
