Abbey Vocational School (AVS), Donegal Town, have qualified for a first-ever All-Ireland ‘B’ senior colleges football final after an impressive 2-17 to 1-13 semi-final victory over Connacht Champions Dunmore Community School (Galway), in a match played at Kent Park in Sligo on Saturday.
Listen back to Ocean FM Sport’s commentary of the game, as described by Austin O’Callaghan and Joyce McMullin.
Goals from Conor McCahill in the first-half, and substitute Jonathan O’Driscoll in the second helped guide AVS to a seven-point victory over a gallant Dunmore side who refused to throw in the towel throughout this contest.
It’s the first time that the Donegal Town school has reached an All-Ireland senior colleges final – and comes just two weeks after AVS won a first-ever Ulster Colleges MacLarnon Cup title with a 2-11 to 0-8 win over Our Lady’s & St Patrick’s of Knock (Belfast).
AVS trio Conor McCahill, Kevin Muldoon and Callum McCrea gave their reaction to Ocean FM Sport’s Austin O’Callaghan after Saturday’s semi-final win.
The team, managed by Donegal senior footballer Jamie Brennan and Stuart McFadden, will now face Ashbourne Community School in the All-Ireland final, after the Meath school beat Mitchelstown CBS of Cork in Saturday’s other semi-final by 2-13 to 2-8
The date, time and venue for the All-Ireland ‘B’ colleges football final has still to be confirmed.
