Mercy College complete schools league & cup double



The Mercy College, Sligo, have won the All-Ireland girls U19 C league title in Dublin, after beating St Joseph’s, Spanish Point (Clare) in Monday’s final at the National Basketball Arena in Tallaght.

It took three periods of overtime to separate the teams before the Mercy eventually won 50-46.

As she was in the recent All-Ireland Schools Cup final, Mercy’s Anna McDaniel collected the MVP award.

The victory completes a fabulous school season for this Mercy College team as they now hold but the All-Ireland Cup and League silveware.

Team coach Louise Harte and School Principal Anne Gorby spoke to Ocean FM Sport’s Austin O’Callaghan after Monday’s win.

The Mercy College U19 squad was: Aoibheann Schmidtmeier, Clodagh Barrett (co-captain), Kayleigh Walsh, Poppy Garvey, Sarah McDaniel, Anna McDaniel, Xena Moragn (co-captain), Hazel O’Brien, Emma Lineen, Clara Reynolds.

There will be a special homecoming for the Mercy College’s All-Ireland winners this Monday evening, Feb 19th, at the school, at 7pm. All welcome.
