Sligo’s Saoirse Higgins savours Millrose Games experience

Eight-year-old Saoirse Higgins from Sooey in Sligo had a weekend to remember at the prestigious Millrose Games in the United States.

She was one of two young Irish competitors to race in the World Fastest Kids races.

Galway’s Charlie Sweeney was also selected for the trip – which was organised by Sligo-based athletics coach Dermot McDermott.

Saoirse finished a very impressive sixth in the girls race – at a meeting which also saw some of Ireland’s best senior athletes taking part, including Rhasidat Adeleke, who improved her own Irish record on Sunday when finish second in the women’s 300 metres.

Saoirse and Charlie are pictured below with Ireland’s former ‘Chairman of the Boards‘ Eamonn Coughlan, who was also at the Millrose Games in New York.
