Brendan Egan appointed nutritionist to Ireland women’s soccer team

Former Sligo gaelic footballer Brendan Egan has been added to new Republic of Ireland women’s manager Eileen Gleeson’s backroom team as squad nutritionist.

Egan, who has previously worked in a similar capacity with the men’s international team under former boss Stephen Kenny, is now part of the support staff for the senior women’s international side.

Egan is an Associate Professor of Sport and Exercise Physiology, and currently Head of School for the School of Health and Human Performance at DCU.

On the training pitch, the FAI has confirmed that head coach Gleeson will be supported by Assistant Coaches Colin Healy, Emma Byrne and Rhys Carr, plus Performance Coach Ivi Casagrande.

The full support staff will begin preparation for the UEFA Women’s European Championship Qualifiers with upcoming International Friendlies against Italy (February 23) and Cymru (February 27).
