Glenview Stars complete league and cup double

Glenview Stars secured their league and cup double success with victory over Gurteen Celtic in the Sligo Bay Lobsters Women’s Cup Final on Saturday afternoon.

The victory in the Final capped off a successful season for Gino O’Boyle’s side, following an unbeaten record in their inaugural season, which saw Glenview win all but one of their eleven league games, and only conceding six goals in the entire campaign.

The backline of The Stars proved to be to their strength once again, as Karin Roddy saved two dangerous strikes from Katie Walsh in the first half. As well as Laura McGuinn, with a superb performance at centre back.

The deciding goal came during the second half, where Dahanna Feeney’s corner proved troublesome for Gurteen, falling to Sarah O’Boyle to tuck it away.

Gurteen’s best chance to equalise came from a long-range effort through Katie Walsh, whose strike hit the inside of the right post and rolling across the goal line.

Glenview would hold on to the one goal lead, confirming them as undefeated League and Cup Champions in their inaugural season.
