Sligo’s Saoirse Higgins heads for Millrose Games



Sligo’s Saoirse Higgins will compete at the prestigious Millrose Games in New York this Saturday (Feb 10th).

The eight-year-old from Sooey in Co Sligo will compete in the World’s Fastest Kid race along with Charlie Sweeney from Mervue in Galway.

Both athletes will be under the guidance of Sligo athletics coach Dermot McDermott.

Saoirse’s race –  a 55-metre dash indoors – takes place on Sunday at 5:30pm Irish time.

The two will also get a chance to see senior Irish athletes Rhasidat Adeleke and Andrew Coscoran compete in the adult races at the Millrose Games, which are now into the 116th year and generally regarded as one of Athletics most famous indoor track and field event.

Coscoran will compete in the famous  Wanamaker mile, a race which was dominated by Ireland’s Eamonn Coughlan in his running heyday.
