Donegal TD and Tánaiste clash over TV licence

Tensions boiled over in the Dáil this week over calls to abolish the TV licence.

The issue was raised by Donegal Sinn Fein TD, Pearse Doherty, who claimed the licence fee should be scrapped and replaced by exchequer.

Tánaiste Mícheal Martin took umbrage with this suggestion, and highlighted a number of times Sinn Fein had sued the media, saying that their actions would have a negative impact in the future.

A heated exchange followed, with Leas Ceann Comhairle, Catherine Connolly, having to intervene.
