HSE ‘disappointed’ with INMO as hospital controversy continues

The HSE has expressed disappointment over plans by the INMO to ballot their members for industrial action over an ongoing dispute over the new community hospital in Ballyshannon.

The new Community Hospital will provide both Long Term Care and Short Term Care facilities to serve the catchment area of South Donegal North Leitrim and North Sligo.

But there’s an ongoing dispute between staff and the HSE around planned staffing levels for the facility.

The INMO issued a statement this week saying that talks broke down last Friday as parties were unable to reach an agreement and that industrial action could be on the cards.

The HSE meanwhile has stated that its focus has always and will continue to remain on providing a safe high quality service at the new Hospital for residents and staff.

The HSE remains committed to resolving matters through ongoing dialogue and is looking ahead to the planned opening date of early February.

They say though that it’s disappointing that the INMO are going ahead with a ballot for industrial action before talks had been allowed to reach a conclusion.

The HSE are actively seeking to engage with the INMO to find a resolution to support the commencement of services in early February 2024
