Mayo Councillor backs decision which has resulted in council staff not cooperating with the Department of Integration

Earlier this week a decision was taken by Mayo County Councillors which instructed council staff not to cooperate with the Department of Integration when it comes to housing asylum seekers.

The councillors in Mayo want a strategy in place  to deal with those seeking international  protection.

The elected representatives want infrastructure in place to deal with increases in population where those seeking international protection are placed.

The motion was proposed by Independent Councillor Michael Kilcoyne.  Both he and Leitrim Independent Councillor Felim Gurn joined John Lynch on North West today to discuss the issue.
