A recently declared local election candidate in North Leitrim says it the intention of independents to target the existing fine Gael seats being vacated by Councillors Sean McDermott and Frank Dolan.
Eddie Mitchel has confirmed his intention to run as an Independent in the Manorhamilton MD.
He has previously been to fore on a number of community issues in the area and was part of the ant-fracking campaign.
Mr Mitchel had been linked with running for Fine Gael but has now taken the decision to run as an independent candidate in the June elections.
Speaking to ocean FM news he says with both sitting Fine Gael Councillors in the electoral area, not seeking re-election there is an opportunity for new faces to secure places on Leitrim County Council.
