Updated: Staff at Letterkenny University Hospital requested not to ask patients to lie on floor

The Irish Times in a report are claiming that staff at Letterkenny University Hospital have been instructed not to leave patients lying on the floor of its Emergency Department.

It’s after a man suffered injuries and was made to lie on the floor of the hospital’s emergency department because there was not a bed or trolley to place him on.

The report claims that the man had fainted due to falling out of his chair, and was placed on the floor.

He further claims to have fainted again while lying on the floor of the hospital, and woke up with a black eye as well as a nosebleed.

The report also alleges that a number of administrative errors took place in contacting the patient and his family following the ordeal also.

The incident is understood to have occurred in September of 2022.

The hospital later apologised to the patient for his treatment.

Staff were told after the incident that they were not to ask any patient to lie on the floor of the hospital in future.
