The Minister for Agriculture, Donegal TD Charlie McConalogue has welcomed the appointment of the agri-food regulator.
The position was formed earlier this week.
The independent body will be in charge of analysing the business relationship between farmers and shops who buy their products.
The body will also have the powers to carry out enforcement on retailers if necessary.
Minister McConaloge says the introduction of the Regulator should ease concerns many farmers over not being offered adequate prices for their produce.
