Letterkenny University Hospital have issued a statement following a covid outbreak in the facility.
The statement was issued via the Saolta Hospital Group.
There is currently a covid outbreak in two wards at the hospital, with 15 cases confirmed at the moment.
This has led to long delays in the emergency department, where there are currently 80 people waiting today. Up to 135 people passed through the ED on Thursday.
The statement concluded by recommending people consider other options for non-emergency care, such as Out of Hours GP and pharmacies, before attending an ED.
The hospital also acknowledged that these delays are very difficult for patients and their families and has apologised for the inconvenience and distress the delays have caused.
