DCU women’s gaelic footballers claimed the Higher Education O’Rourke Cup Division 1 league title in Waterford on Wednesday night with a comprehensive 1-8 to 0-1.
The team captained by Meath All-Ireland winner Emma Duggan, included Sligo LGFA county captain Claire Dunne (St Farnan’s) at corner-back, Jade Lyons (Shamrock Gaels) at wing forward and Glencar Manorhamilton’s Leah Fox at corner-forward.
In challenging weather conditions, DCU restricted their opponents to a single score to run out convincing winners – and retain their Division 1 title.
The DCU panel also included Leitrim’s Sarah Reynolds (St Mary’s) and Donegal’s Aoibhinn O’Connell (Downings).
