Owenmore Gaels beaten in Connacht junior final

Owenmore Gaels bid to win a first-ever Connacht club football title came up short at foggy Castlebar in Sligo as opponents Lahardane MacHales (Mayo) edged to a 3-10 to 1-12 in Saturday’s provincial junior decider.

This was a first-ever Connacht club decider for the Collooney/Ballisodare/Ballinacarrow club – and they battle courageously throughout.

However, after failing to convert a number of early first-half goal opportunities themselves, the concession of two-three points shortly before interval would prove key scores in this final.

Owenmore Gaels: S O’Boyle; R Conneely, L Gilligan, M Anderson; K Mullen, J Callaghan, R Quigley; A Walsh, M Walsh; D Callaghan, A Mullen, D Walsh; G Lavin, S Fallon, C Davey. Substitutes: J Farrell for O’Boyle (28), P Murphy for Lavin (38), R Phillips for Davey (45).
