Local Election Candidate claims she was prevented for attending local meeting on refugee accommodation

Assurances have been provided that  there will be no immediate arrival of refugees to the village of Dromahair due to a planning issue with the proposed facility where  those arriving were due to be accommodated.

A meeting took place last night between the local concerned Citizens Group and a Community Engagement team.

At the meeting the group representing local residents were given the opportunity to voice their concerns.

These concerns will now be relayed to the Department of integration.

Assurances were provided that there would be no immediate arrival of refugees due to what was described as a planning issue with the Abbey Manor Hotel.

Further meetings are due to take place between the Engagement Team and local residents.

Ocean FM news also understand that a small number of representatives from the ‘Leitrim for All Group’ attempted to attend last night’s meeting but were refused admission by the Concerned Dromahair  Residents Group.

Those that were refused admission were advised to request a separate meeting with the Community Engagement Team.

Local Election candidate for the Labour Party Bernie Linnane has confirmed that she looked to attend last night’s meeting and expressed her disappointment that she was not allowed to do so.
