Health Minister to visit Donegal today

Health Minister Stephen Donnelly is in Donegal today for a number of key engagements.

While the Minister is set to turn the sod at the new 110 community hospital facility Letterkenny, more crucially, he’s due to meet with local GPs and consultants over major concerns relating to Letterkenny University Hospital.

His visit comes some weeks after the Performance Management and Improvement Unit began a review into all systems across the hospital.

It’s hoped that the findings of the review, will lead to a more efficient level of service and care for patients.

The review was ordered after consultants and doctors penned a letter detailing serious concerns about a ‘service collapse’ and issues around recruiting and retaining staff.

As part of his visit, Mr Donnelly will meet with GP representatives, hospital staff representatives and hospital management, and will be briefed on the work to date of the PMIU.
