Boyle’s Enda Smith wins football All-Star

Boyle and Roscommon footballer Enda Smith won a GAA/GPA football All-Star award at Friday night’s Awards ceremony at the RDS in Dublin.

Smith becomes the first Roscommon footballer since Francie Grehan since Francie Grehan 22 years award (2201) to collect such an accolade.

He was an instrumental figure in Roscommon Connacht championship win over Mayo – and scored 2-10 in the 2023 championship.

As for the rest of the selection, Dublin goalkeeper Stephen Cluxton became the oldest player to win an All Star on Friday night.

The 42-year old was among five members of the All Ireland-winning side to be named on the team of the year.

He’s joined by Michael Fitzsimons, James McCarthy, Brian Fenton and Colm Basquel.

Beaten finalists Kerry have Tom O’Sullivan, Paudie Clifford, Sean O’Shea and David Clifford in the team.

Derry also received four All-Stars – Conor McCluskey, Gareth McKinless, Brendan Rodgers and Shane McGuigan.

Completing the team was Monaghan’s Conor McCarthy.

David Clifford was also named as Footballer of the Year.
