Sligo Rovers facing substantial end-of-season financial loss

The Treasurer of Sligo Rovers FC David Rowe has warned that the club is facing a substantial six-figure deficit at the end of the current financial year.

Rowe was a guest on this week’s Bit O’Red Supporters Trust podcast (BORST).

Rovers disappointing 2023 season, coupled with increased running costs and the lack of any income from European football, Rowe says,  all contributed to the club going from a situation where it held circa €200,000 in the bank this time last year, to owing a similar amount to creditors at the end of the current year.

That shortfall will have consequences across the club’s operations, with the first-team budget for next season set to drop by 35-40 percent.

Rowe says the planned redevelopment of the Showgrounds remains on course and, for now, is separate to the day-to-day running costs.

However, he said the the realisation of the club’s Masterplan will be heavily reliant on substantial government funding.
