Ballyshannon Gardai honoured at Water Safety Ireland National Awards

Three Gardai attached to Ballyshannon Garda Station have been honoured at the Water Safety Ireland National Awards.

The annual event recognises people’s bravery in their efforts in rescuing others who were in immediate danger in the water.

Last March, Gardaí from the Ballyshannon District were alerted to the fact that a man was in distress in a river in the Glenties area.

Sergeant Mark Colgan entered the water and brought the man to safety with the help of Garda Emmet Cassidy & Garda Noel Gavaghan.

The man made a full recovery.

All three were recipients of a ‘Rescue Appreciation Award’ on Tuesday.

These three Garda members were among our 32 Gardai who were recipients at Tuesday’s Water Safety Ireland Awards.

The 32 recipients saved the lives of 16 people who were in immediate danger whilst in the water over recent months.
