Harkin calls on Government to avert strike action if agreement not reached today

Unions representing voluntary and community organisations, due to strike tomorrow, have accepted an invitation to talks at the WRC.

The discussions at the Workplace Relations Commission are taking place this afternoon, ahead of an indefinite strike which starts tomorrow.

Section 39A workers are calling for the same pay and conditions as those in similar roles who are directly employed by Government agencies.

As it stands strike action will go ahead involving up to 5000 workers and will result in closure of a variety of services.

Sligo Leitrim Independent TD Marian Harkin says the Health Minister should not allow the strikes proceed, if an agreement is not reached today.
