Donegal and Leitrim to benefit from Shared Island projects funding

Two local authorities in the North West are set to benefit from funding that has been made available for Shared Island projects.

Donegal County Council and Leitrim County Council are two of nine representative bodies that will collaborate on cross-border initiatives.

Up to 850,000 euro has been made available by the Department of Tourism. Culture, Arts, Gaeltacht, Sport and Media for the projects, as part of the Shared Island dimension to the Creative Ireland Programme 2023-2027.

The Shared Histories project will be supported by the Regional Cultural Centre in Donegal, the Nerve Centre in Derry and Photo Museum Ireland, and aims to engage communities on both sides of the border to use photography to explore their shared past.

Meanwhile in Leitrim, Farm Walks will co-create a programme of activities with farming groups in Leitrim and Fermanagh to address issues that rural communities on both sides of the border share.

Other local authorities included in the scheme are Limerick, Waterford, Dublin, Fingal, Cork, Cavan and Clare.
