Melvin Gaels reach Leitrim intermediate final

Melvin Gaels are through to the Leitrim Smith Monumentals intermediate football final for 2023 following Saturday’s hard-earned 1-6 to 0-6 semi-final win over Kiltubrid in Drumshanbo.

The result means the Kinlough club are one more win away from making a swift return to senior championship football.

The Gaels were relegated from the top tier of club championship football by Dromahair 12 months ago after Padraig Clancy’s side scored a match-winning goal with the last move of the match.

Team manager Aidan Murray spoke to Ocean FM Sport’s PJ Leddy after Saturday’s semi-final win in atrocious weather conditions.

Saturday’s second semi-final between Allen Gaels and Annaduff, which was scheduled for Cloone, was called off because of an unplayable pitch.
