Local union official warns of low morale among fire fighters

Retained firefighters are still waiting on the official document from the Workplace Relations Commission regarding their demands for better pay and conditions.

News broke last week that the firefighter’s strikes were to be postponed following negotiations that ran into the early hours of Thursday morning.

Among the proposals offered were small increases on guaranteed pay.

SIPTU are still waiting to receive the complicated document from the WRC, and it’s believed it could take days for all parties to go through what will be finally put on offer.

Once received, SIPTU members will vote on whether to accept the conditions offered.

Speaking to Ocean FM News, Colin McGowan, Sligo SIPTU representative, says the mood amongst firefighters all over the country is low, ahead of the impending vote.
