Leitrim LGFA Club Championships begin this weekend

The 2023 Gotham Dry Wall adult club championships begin this weekend in Leitrim with senior champions Glencar/Manorhamilton beginning their bid for a fourth consecutive county title.

The north Leitrim side play Ballinamore Sean O’Heslin’s  on Sunday morning (11am) in a repeat of last year’s senior championship decider.

Team captain Karen Connolly and Leah Fox spoke to Ocean FM Sport’s Austin O’Callaghan ahead of Sunday’s championship opener against Ballinamore Seán O’Heslin’s.

There are six clubs contesting the senior championship which will see A and B finals again this year.

Last year’s intermediate champions, St Mary’s will play St Joseph’s in the opening round this Sunday – while the other game sees the Ballinaglera/Drumshanbo combination of St Francis take on Kiltubrid.

Leitrim LGFA Chairperson, who herself plays junior football for St Mary’s, has been chatting to Austin O’Callaghan about the continuing rise of women’s club football in the county.

Dromahair footballer Eimear McHugh is determined to make up for the recent disappointment of losing the recent Division 2 league final, when the Gotham Dry Wall intermediate championship begins this weekend in Leitrim. She’s been talking to Ocean FM Sport’s Austin O’Callaghan.
