Leitrim woman helps Dublin win All-Ireland title

Leitrim can take a small portion of the credit for Dublin’s 0-18 to 1-10 win over Kerry in last Sunday’s TG4 All-Ireland senior football final at Croke Park.

Ballinamore Seán O”Heslin’s Eilish O’Dowd played a starring role at midfield for the Dubs in their five-point win over the Kingdom.

O’Dowd played with Leitrim up until a couple of years ago – but is based in Dublin, where she works as a National School teacher in Ballybough.

She recent transferred clubs from Ballinamore to Na Fianna in the capital.

Nonetheless, when she spoke to Jerome Quinn on Sunday after helping the Dubs win their sixth All-Ireland senior title, she was very conscious of her roots.
