Shamrock Gaels seal league title on penalties



Shamrock Gaels won an enthralling Sligo Furey’s Coaches Division 1 league title on Friday evening with a penalty shoot-out victory over St Mary’s at Markievicz Park.

Shamrock Gaels had led the game by six points will 11 minutes remaining in the second-half only for St Mary’s to rally and reel off six unaswered points to force extra-time.

The sides still couldn’t be separated at the end of extra time (2-14 to 1-17) and, in the fading light at Markievicz Park, it took penalties to decide the issue with Shamrock Gaels goalkeeper DJ Lyons proving to be hero.- saving three of the St Mary’s five spot kicks.
