Former councillor fears political parties will struggle to attract candidates to contest elections



Concern is being expressed this morning that many Political parties are facing a mounting challenges in attracting candidates to contest the 2024 local elections.

 

The comments from former Leitrim councillor John McCartin, come after calls were made this week for Councillors and candidates that are contesting elections not to have to publish their home addresses.

 

The former Fine Gael Councillor says main stream parties in particular will find it difficult to attract candidates due the political discourse which he claims has stooped to a new low.

 

The Businessman and former member of the local Authority in Leitrim says many excellent potential candidates will feel they can make a greater contribution to their areas outside of politics.
