Allen Gaels lift Division 2 league title in Leitrim

Allen Gaels capped their return to Division 1 league football next season with a spirited 2-12 to 1-13 success over Carrigallen in Friday night’s Leitrim Masonite Division 2 final, played at Avantmoney Páirc Sean MacDiarmada in Carrick-on-Shannon.

The two ‘Ciarans’, McMorrow and Walsh, scored 1-6 and 1-2 respectively in a game the Drumshanbo men controlled for long periods, yet from holding an eight-point lead at one stage in the second-half, they had to withstand a late rally from Carrigallen before securing the victory.

Attention now turns to Saturday night’s first round draw for the Smith Monumentals Intermediate Football Championship, which will be made following the conclusion of the Division 1 league final in Carrick.

Both Allen Gaels and Carrigallen will be viewed as strong contenders for intermediate honours this championship summer.
