Sligo Rovers let two-goal lead slip in Drogheda

Sligo Rovers surrendered a 2-0 lead to draw 2-2 with Drogheda United in Friday night’s SSE Airtricity Premier Division game at Weavers Park.

The sides were meeting at the county Louth venue for the second time in a week, following last Friday’s FaI Cup tie, which Drogheda won 2-1.

Here in this league fixture, it was the visitors who took the lead on 24 minutes though Stefan Radosavljevic (pictured).

That advantage was doubled on 58 minutes when Johann Brannefalk’s free-kick was headed into his own net by Drogheda defender Conor Keely.

However, Drogheda rescued a point with two second-half goals through Adam Foley and Dale Rooney.

Friday night’s game marked David Cawley’s 300th appearance for Sligo Rovers.

The Mayo man will receive a club testamonial on Tuesday, August 11th.

In terms of the relegation picture, Friday night’s other games went Rovers way with both Cork City and UCD suffering 2-0 defeats.
